Snow around Brodgar (but not today’s)
As I write this, we’re well and truly snowed into our corner of the West Mainland.
It’s been quite a few years since we had a major covering of snow – December 2010, I think, when the entire country was affected by snow and ice for almost a month!
From the late 1990s until the mid 2000s, heavy snowfall was relatively common – certainly more so than I remember in previous years.
It was on one of those occasions, that these photographs were taken. Although the main roads were (mostly) passable, side roads were blocked and the police were advising people not to travel. We had been snowed in for days at this point, so I decided to tackle the four miles between my house and the Ness of Brodgar by bicycle…
…I never did it again. And certainly won’t be venturing very far today.
