Homage to the Sondage in the Montage … with some Debitage on the Side

Painted on a 15 foot by 6 foot wall in the Art Hut at the Ness of Brodgar in 2018, this work combines my favourite bits of the Ness uncovered over the years. I asked volunteers on site to contribute, and to write and define archaeological words they liked for their sound or meaning along the painting; thus the graffiti and the research become the root of the painting.
Jeanne’s association with the Ness of Brodgar is a long one. She lives and works in Stromness, Orkney, and has helped the Ness financially and in many other ways, wherever she can over the years. We are very grateful and value our friendship greatly with Jeanne. This print is the result of Jeanne’s residency at the Ness in 2018 and proceeds from its sale will come to the Ness to further support the archaeological exploration of this unique site.
