‘The Early Neolithic of Northern Europe’ – new book available to download
What better way to end a busy week than with news of a brand new book that is available for free!
Published this week, The Early Neolithic of Northern Europe – New approaches to migration, movement and social connection is fully open access, meaning it can be read online or downloaded at no cost.
The Early Neolithic in Britain, Ireland and Southern Scandinavia is characterised by monumental constructions (e.g. causewayed enclosures, dolmens) and by specific traditions of depositional practice. Some aspects of these are similar in all regions but there has, to date, been little comparative work.
With increasing evidence of Neolithic travel in recent years, the question is whether these similarities are purely coincidental or the result of widespread contacts. And this is the main issue tackled by the papers in the new book.
One of the papers focuses on the Ness of Brodgar, with Dr Hugo Anderson-Whymark looking at the artefacts from the Stenness-Brodgar monument complex and proposing that the area was the final destination of many long-distance journeys.
Edited by Daniela Hofmann, Vicki Cummings, Mathias Bjørnevad-Ahlqvist and Rune Iversen, The Early Neolithic of northern Europe is published by Sidestone Press and available here.
Enjoy!
