2024 dig dates set – the final season of excavation at the Ness

The dates for next year’s excavation – the final season of fieldwork at the Ness – have been set.

Provided our fundraising plans come together, diggers will be back on site from Monday, June 24, until Friday, August 23, 2024.

The nine-week excavation will be open to the public on weekdays between Wednesday, June 26 and Friday, August 16. At present, guided site tours are pencilled in for Monday to Friday at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

There will be two open days – Sunday, July 14, and Sunday, August 4 – on site and in the Stenness school.

Due to the complex nature of the archaeology, we won’t be taking volunteers in 2024, unless they have previous experience working at the Ness.
