Fieldwork on the Ness of Brodgar ended in August 2024. The trenches were backfilled and the excavation site is closed to the public – please respect the No Entry signs.
If, however, you would like to visit the site there are two options:
- Private Tour: With project director Nick Card (if he is available) or Sigurd Towrie – we ask for a minimum donation to project funds of £270 or £13 per head, whichever is the larger.
These “virtual” tours provide an introduction to the Ness and what has been discovered and allow you to experience the complex’s position in the landscape and will feature interpretation materials and artefacts. Contact info@nessofbrodgar.co.uk for more details or to request a slot.
- Tour guide: Book a visit through an Orkney tour guide. Your guide will arrange and book a time and incorporate your Ness trip into their overall tour. For this we request a donation for access to the site.
With both options, we are limiting numbers and tour frequency due to available parking space and to minimise disturbance/damage by vehicles and footfall.
Please do not enter the site unless with prior arrangement.
If neither of these options suit, there will be a display of information panels from the recent exhibition Ness of Brodgar, Past, Present and Future at the Maeshowe Visitor Centre, in Stenness village, from June to September 2025.
We are constantly updating the Ness website and issue newsletters throughout the year.
